Chinese gov’t donates to Rebecca Akufo-Addo Foundation

The Chinese Embassy to Ghana has presented medical supplies to the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, on behalf of the Chinese Government.

The donation was made at the request of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) in a letter addressed to Professor Peng Liyuan, wife of H.E. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China.

The Chinese government donated medical supplies, through OAFLAD, to 53 African countries to help mothers, children and young people there to fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

Zhu Jing, Charge d’affaires, Chinese Embassy said at the height of China’s battle against the virus early this year, the First Lady, on behalf of the Ghanaian government, gave invaluable support to the Chinese people by donating masks to Wuhan, the hardest hit city.

This expression of profound feeling is an indelible deed in the history of China-Ghana friendship and shall always be remembered.

He said as Ghanaians are battling with the virus this time around, the Chinese government returns its kindness and takes the lead in providing assistance. China is the first country to send medical supplies by chartered flight to Ghana. Chinese doctors shared experience in disease prevention and control by video conferences with their Ghanaian counterpart for five times.

“To build consensus on uniting to fight against the pandemic, an Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity against COVID-19 was convened on June 17 this year by President Xi Jinping which laid out measures China will use in helping Africa win the battle against the virus. China will stay committed to fighting COVID-19 together with African countries, enhancing China-Africa cooperation especially in public health, economic reopening and people’s livelihood, upholding multilateralism and taking China-Africa friendship forward”, Mr. Jing stated.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo expressed her gratitude to the Chinese government for the kind gesture. She further assured them the items will be put into good use.
