Dredge Masters Limited, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of companies, has handed over a refurbished ward to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to help in caring for children and also pave way for proper and ultramodern care in the hospital.

The facility which was in a deplorable state received support from the Dredge Masters immediately authorities of the ward knocked on the doors of the company for assistance.

The project, which took about three months before completion included removal and replacement of all windows and doors with ultra-modern sliding windows and doors, tiling of the floor of the ward and the various washrooms, provision of new beds and televisions, amongst others, at the cost of GH₵1.8 million.

According to the Deputy Managing Director of Dredge Masters Limited, Samuel Borquaye, the motto of the company encouraged them to attend to the needs of the ward after the call was made by some of the staff.

“What actually motivated us is that the motto of our mother company Jospong is: ‘Improving lives of people’, so any where we see that there is a challenge of which we can take that opportunity to improve the lives of the people, we take that advantage, so that is what actually motivated us to be here. We came here and saw the state of the ward and quickly did our engineering works and we came out with what has to be done,” he said during the handing over ceremony at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital.

Mr. Borquaye pleaded with authorities of the ward to take good care of the facility by adopting good maintenance culture in order to make the ward always look pleasant and presentable.

Head of Department for the children’s ward, Professor Christabel Enwerinu Laryea, in an interview disclosed that the facility attends to most difficult cases that are not addressed at the various hospitals but come to their doorstep, stating that the refurbishment was a perfect one and calls for a celebration.

“Our department is a tertiary institution. That means that when children are sick and they try to look after them at primary and secondary levels, and they are not getting better, they refer them to this facility because we have the staff and the equipment to look after children who have severe health conditions. The change you have seen today means that when these children are in the hospital, they will be in a comfortable, child friendly, family friendly environment and that is why we are happy,” she noted.

She expressed appreciations to the management of Dredge Masters Limited on behalf of the entire ward and called on other organisations to also step in and contribute to the success of the ward, adding that a lot of work needs to be done at other wards of the facility.

She further stated that investments made in children are for the future and hopes that society will begin to know the importance of children to the nation and will contribute effortlessly and confidently to their wellbeing.
