As part of its corporate social responsibility, the St John’s Hospital and Fertility Centre – a private health facility in Accra, has made a cheque donation of GH¢20,000 to the Sekyere East District Health Directorate in the Ashanti Region.

The donation is in support of the fight against outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the district. The district recorded its first case of COVID -19 on April 9. To this end, the money is expected to aid contact-tracing, samples collection and procurement of medical supplies for facilities like Effiduase Government Hospital and Ahmadiyya Hospital at Asokore.

Presenting the cheque, Founder of St John’s Hospital and Fertility Centre, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, affirmed commitment from the specialised facility’s board and management to support government’s efforts to contain and manage the pandemic in the country.

“In this challenging moment, we at St John’s Hospital and Fertility Centre have realised the need to support the district health directorate to do its work. This is the time that frontline health workers need morale and community support to motivate them. Well-to-do citizens of the district have to stand up and be counted in the battle against COVID-19. If our families and communities are free from the virus, we will all have our peace of mind to carry on with our daily endeavours,” he said.

Dr. Ayew Afriye is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase-Asokore, and urged the district health authorities to make judicious use of the widow’s mite donation. He advised the general public to strictly adhere to all safety protocols such as social distancing, periodic handwashing and sanitizing as well as wearing nose masks when moving out to prevent infection from droplets.

The Sekyere East District Health Director, Dr. Justice Ofori Amoah who received the GH¢20,000 cheque, said in this most difficult period of healthcare delivery in the district and country as whole, a gesture of this kind is handy and timely.  He thanked the Board and Management of St John’s Hospital and Fertility Centre for their support, and appealed for corporate Ghana and individuals to emulate the example.
