As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Guaranty Trust Bank, has handed over a refurbished computer laboratory to the Ayi Mensah Basic School.

This is in line with the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) decision to change the syllabus from the normal teaching and learning to a more interactive, practical and research based as well as address the deficit in computer facilities required to conduct virtual learning sessions, which have become essential as a result of COVID-19.

Speaking during the handing-over ceremony, General Manager for Internal Services at GT Bank, Iris Richter-Addo stated that the project reaffirms the bank’s commitment to equip youngsters with adequate ICT skills.

“We believe that every child has the right to quality education, and with the new established online curriculum introduced in recent times, we believe this initiative has come at the right time. As a socially-responsible entity, we do our best to ensure that we contribute our quota to the development of individuals and institutions in the communities we operate in.

GT Bank is widely known for prowess in innovation and technology and therefore hopes that by this donation, these future leaders will be prepared for a world that is largely driven by technology,” she stated.

Adding his voice, head of supervision for GES, Peter Ngala, lauded GT Bank for taking this timely initiative. “This offer has come at the time where technology usage is on the high, at the time where GES is encouraging teachers to use technology to research and teach as well as encouraging the student to use it to learn. I must say that this offer is going to be useful to the school.”

Expressing his appreciation, the headmaster of Ayi Mensah Basic School, Essel Ofosu Anto said prior to the donation, the school’s ICT laboratory was in a deplorable state. According to him the entire student population had to rely on two laptops, which was a very big challenge for the ICT teacher to cope with.

“This is a dream come true. It started with one phone call to the managing director of GT Bank who promised that the bank will assist in any way it can. Truly, they have made good of their promise and here we are today to witness the handing over of this beautiful edifice. We thank GT Bank for what they have done for us, I believe not only the children but teachers are going to benefit as well,” he stated.

GT Bank has been embarking on an ICT drive initiative across the nation and Ayi Mensah Basic School becomes the fifth school to benefit from the initiative. Previous beneficiaries include Anumle Cluster of Schools, Rev. Fr. Wenders, Bethel AME Zion and Bosomase D/A Basic Schools.
