The Member of Parliament for Kumbungu constituency, Dr. Adam Hamza, has handed over a three-unit classroom block and an office complex project to the staff and pupils of Gumo D/A Primary School of the Kumbungu district in the Northern Region.

The gesture was accompanied with the provision of 400 exercise books and 300 pens to the school’s authority for distribution among the students. The move is expected to help enhance quality of education in the area, and encourage people to take education seriously.

Dr. Hamza, in a handing-over ceremony, said quality education for the younger generation has been his priority. “Because education is my priority, I have for the past years also established an Educational Fund to help support needy but brilliant students in the constituency,” he said.

Dr. Hamza explained that completion of the school is the fulfillment of a pledge he made to the chiefs and people of Gumo during the 2020 general elections. He recalled that the chief personally informed him about their inability to complete the school project, which was started with their own resources several years ago.

He said provision of the educational infrastructure is part of his determination to uplift the face of the educational sector in Kumbungu district. “Despite the challenges being encountered bythe residents, I will do my best to collaborate with stakeholder institutions like the Ghana Education Service and development partners to bring about development in the area to alleviate poverty,” he said.

He therefore appealed for both teachers and community members to pay good attention to the facility and ensure it is put to good use.

The acting Kumbungu district Educational Director, Sayibu Mahamoud who received the keys to the school and the items on behalf of the chiefs and people of Gumo, commended the MP for giving education in the district the needed push.

According to him, government alone cannot provide all the needed resources in the educational sector; hence, the support of individuals and organisations is appreciated. “Gumo has been one of the communities bedevilled with infrastructure development – especially for the educational sector, so the MP’s support will go along a way in encouraging parents to take their wards to school and also boost the morale of teachers to give of their best,” he said.

He said the district education directorate will continue to work closely with the MP to solve the furniture challenges facing some schools in the district.
