Gov’t committed to infrastructure and human resource dev’t – Veep

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated government’s commitment to enhance infrastructure and human resource development to boost socio-economic activities in the country.

“Without infrastructure and the provision of quality resource development, the policies of government cannot be achieved to bring about development to help reduce economic hardship.

Since we came to power, we have therefore rolled out many policies and social intervention programmes that have brought about development and transformation with many youth and citizens of Ghana, irrespective of party, accessing them to create jobs and curb unemployment,” he said.

The Vice President was speaking during his three-day working visit to the Northern Region which saw him open the Police Station at Lugni in the Nanumba South District; cut sod for the construction of a library in the same district; inaugurate a rural electrification project at Zabzugu; open a two-unit classroom block at the Yendi Senior High School and Nkachina College of Community Health Nursing at Kpandai district.

According to him, the electrification project would connect over hundreds of residents in Zabzugu and its surroundings while the classroom blocks would help to enhance quality educational delivery for future leaders.

“Without power many businesses cannot work in these areas to bring about development hence government’s commitment to ensure all have access to power,” he said, assuring that when this administration is voted for again, all other communities would benefit from the national grid.

He noted that the free SHS programme has also helped to relive many parents of the burden of school fees and has thus allowed vulnerable children access education to enhance their future careers.

Dr Bawumia assured that government was making all efforts to ensure all senior high schools, teacher and nursing training colleges are connected to free WiFi to facilitate access to online reading materials and that the outbreak of COVID-19 has made government identify the loop holes in the educational system.

Election

Dr. Bawumia urged the youth to desists from any activity that would generate conflict and retard the growth of their communities, instead they should seek peace before, during and after the general elections.

The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari II also commended government for the many development initiatives in Dagbon saying many of these initiatives have attracted investors to the area. While some chiefs appealed to government to help with the improvement of their health and educational facilities, others called for the enhancement of road networks as well extension of electrification projects to their nearby communities.
