The Nkoranman Rural Bank Limited at Seikwa in the Tain District of Bono Region has donated sanitary items to various institutions across its catchment area to help stem the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The items, estimated at GH¢10,000 were made up of 25 veronica buckets and accessories, 25 gallons of liquid soap, and boxes of alcohol-based hand sanitizers. The beneficiary institutions included the Police Service, Fire Service, Customs Division-GRA, Seikwa Traditional Council, GPRTU and selected health facilities.
Presenting the items, Victoria Konadu, Board Chairperson of Nkoranman Rural Bank said on the backdrop of the financial sector clean up by the regulator, which eventually affected the industry, it is imperative for the bank to support the fight against the pandemic to bring back the economy to normalcy.
She said: “as people-centered financial institution, we thought it right to support the fight against COVID-19, especially within our catchment area. Without a healthy population to drive the local economy, the bank will not exist, hence the widow’s mite support. If the people are not there, the bank also will not be there.”
In an interview with B&FT, the General Manager of Nkoranman Rural Bank, Ali Maamah, noted that the gesture will not be the first and last. “We will continue to offer support in our own small way to assist the government contain and manage the pandemic. The bank will sustain this exercise even in post-COVID-19 to promote healthy living among the people.”
The Bank, he added, has over the year been committed to corporate social responsibility activities as such. He mentioned donation of flat-screen TV sets to Nkoranman Senior High School at Seikwa and Seikwa Nursing and Midwifery Training College.
On behalf of the beneficiary institutions, Sabastian Vog-enga, Principal Physician Assistant in charge of Seikwa Health Centre expressed gratitude to the bank for the support. He assured the bank that the items would be put into good use to help defeat COVID-19 in the country.
