Cargill Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate, has provided food items to over 1,000 families in different communities in Tema and its environs where the company operates. The gesture was in fulfilment of the company’s pledge to support the vulnerable and less privileged to cope with government’s directive on staying home to help fight the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The food items included bags of rice, cartons of Indomie noodles and tomato paste and cartons of vegetable oil.
Presenting the items on behalf of Cargill, Human Resource Leader for Cargill West Africa, Francis Yohuno said as a food processing business, the company deemed it important to support individuals and families who do not have adequate income to stay home for days without going out to find food.
“At Cargill, our main responsibility is to feed the world. When the Coronavirus (COVID-19) set in, based on the well-intended restrictions government has imposed to limit the spread, we realised lot of people will have difficulties. We have therefore decided to provide food for the aged, needy and underprivileged in order to put food on their table as they stay at home” Mr. Yohuno said.
Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah MP and Deputy Minister, Trade and Industry on behalf of the Tema West Constituency in receiving the items thanked Cargill for the kind gesture at this crucial moment and assured them of distributing them to the target groups who are vulnerable and less privileged in the Constituency.
“This is a gesture worthy of commendation and we entreat other organisations to emulate same and come to the aid of the vulnerable and less privileged especially in crucial moments like this as we continue to fight the Coronavirus pandemic” Mr. Ahenkorah remarked.
Cargill’s donation forms part efforts to provide relief to communities and families in Tema where the company operates its state-of-the-art cocoa processing facility, in the wake of the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Present at the donation also were Cargill Ghana MD Aedo van der Weij; Ama Mintah, Head of Finance, and Smart Darkwah, Plant Manager.
