The newly-inducted president of the Rotary Club of Accra Ridge, Oppong Agyare Agyeman-Anane, has promised to continue the long-standing support of the club to communities.
At an inauguration ceremony in Accra, the president described himself as the Chief Volunteer, and he and the board of directors of the club are in office to serve. He acknowledged the enormous task ahead of him due to the achievements of past presidents of the club. He said with the collaboration and support of club members, they would work harder to do good among the communities in Accra and beyond.
He identified some areas of focus for the Rotary year that commenced on July 1, 2025 under the theme ‘Unite for Good’. In the next 12 months, the members of the club – led by the president – intend to raise over GH¢300,000 to support various service projects in different communities. These include mental health awareness, completion of the Maternity Block of the Mallam Atta Market to serve the many women in the market and beyond, and blood donation to three recipients from each of the 16 regions; an activity that has been going on for 16 years.
Again, the annual medical screening exercise at Kotoso in the Kwahu East District will take place. The president encouraged Rotarians, Rotaractors and the general public to support The Rotary Foundation by donating to the Polio Plus Fund to support the goal of eradicating polio from the world.
“Our success requires every member’s active involvement—through timely dues payment, attendance to meetings and projects, contribution of ideas and positive participation. This club thrives on teamwork, not criticism from the sidelines. As the saying goes, ‘He profits most who serves best,’” the president concluded.
In his speech as the outgoing president, Rotarian Efosa Aibangbee shared his success during the year, which includes increasing the membership and supporting the Nii Amugi Cluster of Schools in Accra, among others. He also ensured members increased their donations to the Rotary Foundation.
“At the start of the Rotary year, we committed to completing our Mallam Atta Delivery and Maternity Unit Clinic. This project is now in the final stages of completion, with work underway to finish the building construction. While we had hoped that this project would be completed by now, we acknowledge that Rotary, being a continuum, requires the new leadership team to continue this work toward completion. The club sponsored a new Rotaract club—the Rotaract Club of Accra Dome and continued to mentor the Interact Club of St. John’s Grammar School.”
The president was handed the red jacket and a chain of office by the past presidents of the club. The District Governor of District 9104, Nana Yaa Pokuaa Siriboe, who graced the occasion, called on Rotarians and well-wishers to support doing good to the world through The Rotary Foundation. She reiterated the theme for the year to ensure all Rotarians in the district Unite for Good.
