The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced its intention to embark on a nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise from Monday, June 16 to Friday, June 27, 2025.

This initiative is aimed at recovering unpaid bills from a broad range of customers including residential, commercial, industrial users and government institutions such as ministries, departments and agencies.

General Manager, External Communications at ECG, Dr. Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, in a press statement indicated that special monitoring teams will be deployed to ensure full compliance during the exercise.

He therefore cautioned the public against any attempt to interfere with the process, as illegally reconnecting power after disconnection will attract legal consequences.

“The exercise also presents an opportunity to assess the integrity of our meters and engage with customers to address their concerns,” Dr. Ayiku added.

Customers in arrears are strongly encouraged to settle their outstanding balances promptly to avoid disconnection and additional reconnection charges. ECG also advises using digital payment platforms, including the ECG Mobile App, for convenient transactions.

The company has been experiencing high system losses, with a recent report showing that ECG lost over 32 percent of the electricity it purchased in 2024.

ECG has been experiencing significant revenue losses, with its recent internal audit revealing losses exceeding GH₵10billion and the company’s debt hitting GH₵56billion.

These losses are attributed to factors like system lapses and inefficiencies in the revenue collection process.

Management is therefore determined to deploy all measures available to mobilise its revenue and curb all illegal connections or power-theft incidents scattered across the country.
