The Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA) launched the Ghana-China Media Fellowship 2025 on Saturday, June 14, 2025, welcoming the first cohort of 15 media professionals from television, radio, print and digital platforms across Ghana.

The twelve-week training programme aims at deepening participants’ understanding of Ghana-China relations through expert-led lectures, immersive learning, Chinese language lessons and industrial visits.

Speaking at the launch, Executive Director of ACCPA and lead facilitator of the first session, Paul Frimpong, noted: “This fellowship marks a new chapter in media diplomacy. Our goal is to empower Ghanaian journalists with the tools, knowledge and context to tell more informed stories about China and its engagement with Africa”.

Projects Lead and Research Fellow at ACCPA, Sylvia Sinkari, also emphasised the programme’s relevance.

“With China playing an increasingly significant role in Africa, building the media’s capacity to report accurately and critically is not just timely, but essential,” she said.

Participants shared positive feedback after the first session. Journalist and Online Editor at thebftonline.com, the digital arm of Ghana’s leading business newspaper, Business and Financial Times, Juliet Etefe, described the experience as both timely and transformative.

“In a time when understanding global dynamics is essential to quality journalism, this fellowship offers a rare and valuable lens into China’s evolving role in Africa. I am excited about the journey ahead,” she noted.

Ms. Sandra Ampofoa Ofosu, News Editor at Metro TV, added: “My sincere appreciation goes to ACCPA’s leadership for convening this impactful fellowship. It was an inspiring beginning, and I believe it will open greater doors for all of us”.

Ms. Esther Ampomah Larbi of JoyNews TV and Joy FM echoed similar sentiment, saying: “A heartfelt thank you to the organisers. The session was insightful, enjoyable and left us all looking forward to what lies ahead”.

The Ghana-China Media Fellowship will run each Saturday for the next twelve weeks, offering participants a unique opportunity to bridge knowledge gaps and foster cross-cultural understanding.
