MTN Ghana has launched this year’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care in Takoradi under the theme ‘Connecting at the Roots; connecting communities through the use of digital tools’.
“The theme serves as a powerful reminder that true digital transformation not only starts in offices but rather the communities responding to the ongoing challenge of digital exclusion, particularly in rural, remote and underserved areas,” David Woasey, Area Sales Manager – South-West Business District of MTN, has said.
He explained that the Y’ello Care initiative, which is in its 18th year, continues to demonstrate the power of employee-led action in driving meaningful change across the communities they serve.
Since its inception, he said, the campaign has mobilised thousands of MTN employees to support impactful initiatives focused on education, health, youth development and economic empowerment.
“This year, MTNers will implement practical, community-led initiatives that leverage technology to unlock connectivity and bridge these gaps” he said.
“The Y’ello Care initiative is a powerful expression of our identity at MTN which demonstrates our commitment to using volunteerism as a tool for inclusion, empowerment and transformation,” said Mr. Woasey.
He stated that although Ghana is making remarkable strides in technology and innovation, many rural women, farmers and persons with disabilities remain excluded from digital opportunities.
“This is a development challenge and we are committed to bridging this divide. We are not just in the business of connecting people; we are in the business of transforming lives.”
According to Mr. Woasey, one of the guiding principles of this year’s campaign is co-creation – and the staff cannot do it alone but will need collaboration with local communities in defining community needs, which can only be sustainable with community involvement.
Madam Alberta Brown Orleans, Programmes Manager at Duapa Werkspace, said the theme for this year’s celebration resonates with their mission to impact communities, foster innovation and drive sustainable impact.
She noted that over the last several years, the institution’s collaboration as a partner to the 21 Days Y’ello Care has helped bridge the digital divide for most youths in the metropolis.
