Ghana’s insurance industry has once again demonstrated its growing influence and excellence on the African stage, earning significant recognition at the 2025 African Insurance Organization (AIO) Conference held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

A major highlight of the conference was the recognition of the Association of Young Insurance Professionals (YIPs) – Ghana Chapter as the first one of the top three performing YIPs chapters in Africa.

This historic achievement affirms the country’s growing investment in youth empowerment and leadership in the insurance sector. The award was proudly received by StarLife’s Lawrence Daniels, Country Director of YIPs Ghana, during the conference’s prestigious awards ceremony.

Further elevating Ghana’s presence, Asante Nidad, a student of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) and winner of the Tertiary Achiever Award organised by YIPs Ghana under the auspices of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG) in 2024, emerged as the continental winner of the AIO–YIPs Africa Tertiary Institution Competition held during the conference.

In another proud moment, Star Assurance’s Bernard Akyin-Arkoh, a distinguished member of YIPs Ghana, was announced the winner of the AIO Book Award for his outstanding publication titled ‘Improving Disaster Management in Africa: The Role of Insurance in Preparedness, Mitigation, Response and Recovery’. His book offers critical insight into the role insurance can play in strengthening Africa’s disaster resilience and response mechanisms.

These achievements underscore the powerful role that young Ghanaian professionals are playing in shaping the future of insurance across the continent. Ghanaian delegates also played key roles in panel discussions, workshops and strategic engagements, showcasing thought leadership in areas such as inclusive insurance, digital transformation and regulatory collaboration.

The recognition received at the 51st AIO Conference is a strong testament to Ghana’s commitment to innovation, professional development and insurance literacy. It highlights that the country’s insurance talent is not only growing but also making a profound impact on the African stage.

Ghana’s stellar performance at the AIO Conference sets a solid foundation for even greater accomplishments ahead as the industry continues to build capacity, deepen stakeholder engagement and lead with vision and purpose.
