Chief Executive Officer-Stratcomm Africa, Esther Amba Numaba Cobbah, has advised student executives at the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana (IPR-Ghana) to adopt purposeful and impactful communication as a key tool for effective leadership.

Speaking at a training session in Accra organised by Stratcomm Africa in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Ms. Cobbah highlighted the critical role communication plays in leadership success.

“To excel as a leader, your choice of words and how you express ideas and visions are essential in influencing others. Communication must be strategic,” she stated.

The training programme aimed to equip young IPR-Ghana leaders with core leadership and public speaking skills.

Ms. Cobbah also expressed concern over leadership styles that disregard the input of followers, describing such approaches as unproductive. She emphasised that effective leadership requires collaboration and appreciation of team members.

“Leadership exists because of followers. Their trust and support are what make leadership meaningful,” she added.

She reiterated Stratcomm Africa’s commitment to developing young leaders through training in effective communication to support Ghana’s development.

Gabriel Nii Otu Ankra, National Treasurer of IPR-Ghana, also underscored the importance of communication in leadership and affirmed the institute’s interest in nurturing leadership among the youth.

“University is a hub for leadership development, so student leaders must be equipped with strong communication skills to perform effectively,” he said.

The training targets 40 student chapter executives, with numbers expected to grow following the inauguration of a new chapter. Each group will undergo a two-day session, culminating in a graduation ceremony.
