As part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, Underground Mining Alliance (UMA), a sub-contractor of Newmont Ahafo Mines, has donated medical equipment and supplies valued at GH¢104,358 to two Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region.
The beneficiary facilities, located at Goaum Koforidua and Kramokrom, received six patient bed and mattresses, two delivery sets, four examination beds, two BP apparatus, a resuscitation bed, four medication trolleys, digital thermometers, three quaze drums (sterile drums), autoclave machine, surgical gloves, ten rolls of cotton wool, 20 boxes each of examination gloves and face masks, among others.
Speaking during the handing-over ceremony at Goaum Koforidua, Project Manager of UMA, Peter Osei Mensah, reiterated the company’s commitment to improving healthcare in its operational areas. “We are not only here to mine but also to ensure that communities around us access quality healthcare,” he stated. He urged health workers to take proper care of the equipment to serve their intended purpose.
Receiving the items on behalf of the two facilities, Asutifi North District Disease Control Officer, Salaam Dam-Park Laar, expressed gratitude to UMA, noting that the donation would enhance service delivery.
In-charge of the Goaum Koforidua CHPS Compound, Gloria Baah Yeboah, appealed to other organisations and individuals to support the facility. She highlighted the urgent need for tables and chairs to furnish the OPD, a scanning machine for maternal care, and staff accommodation.
