In honour of Women’s Month, the Girls Education Initiative of Ghana (GEIG) proudly hosted a series of impactful events aimed at celebrating and empowering women, with a strong focus on education, entrepreneurship and leadership.

Among the key highlights was an exclusive tour of VLISCO Texstyles Ghana, participation in the Vivo Energy ShePower Summit, and the recognition of outstanding academic achievements among students.

A Journey through VLISCO Texstyles Ghana: Exploring tradition and innovation

As part of our commitment to promoting women’s contributions to the creative industry, students and young professionals embarked on an immersive tour of VLISCO Texstyles Ghana.

This experience provided valuable insights into the history of VLISCO, its manufacturing process and the different stages of textile production. Students from Prampram Technical Vocational Training School observed how high-quality textiles are crafted, gaining a deeper appreciation for the artistry and innovation behind Ghana’s rich textile heritage.

The Vivo Energy ShePower Summit: Fuelling change and redefining possibilities for women in STEM

At the prestigious ShePower Summit at the British Council, GEIG students from the Prampram Technical Vocational Training School represented a diverse group of young women eager to expand their knowledge and networks. The theme for this year’s summit, ‘Fuelling Change: Redefining Possibilities for Women in STEM’, set the stage for inspiring discussions and mentorship.

The event featured an esteemed lineup of speakers and panelists, including:
– Dr. Mrs. Ellen Hagan – Co-founder of Legacy Girls College
– Rhoda Enchil – Education Officer at UNICEF Ghana
– Reinnette Wessels – Chief HR Officer, Vivo Energy
– Gifty Ghansah – Head Teacher, African Science Academy (Panelist)
– Angela Tabiri, PhD – Research Associate (Panelist)
– Elizabeth Patterson – Founder of GEIG (Panelist)
– Araba Koomson – Broadcast Journalist (Moderator)
– Nakeeyat Dramani Sam – Poet

The summit fostered meaningful conversations on career advancement and leadership development, empowering young women to break barriers and drive change in STEM and beyond.

TVET women’s feature month highlights

During TVET Women’s Feature Month, we recognised exceptional women who are making significant contributions to technical and vocational education.

  • Constance Swaniker, Founder and CEO of Accents & Art Ltd. and the Design and Technology Institute, has established a respected brand in metal and wooden fabrication. She is a role model for young women, demonstrating that it’s possible to challenge societal norms and achieve success.
  • Alma Tawia, CEO and Founder of Prestige Kente, is revolutionising Ghana’s textile industry. Her passion and determination have empowered women to dream big and work hard to achieve their goals.

Honouring excellence: Academic achievements in focus

In addition to our Women’s Month activities, we are thrilled to highlight the remarkable academic achievements of our students. Through dedication and perseverance, many have excelled in their studies, earning top honours and distinctions.

As part of these achievements, we proudly celebrate:

  • Akua Akoto, who has graduated from the University of Health and Allied Sciences with a First Class degree in Physician Assistantship
  • Bridget, who has graduated from the University of Ghana with Second Class Upper in Social work with French.
