Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo has said the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) is ready to aid producers of local poultry to intensify marketing and improve sales of locally produced chicken in order to motivate poultry farmers, especially women.
Mr Dumelo was speaking at a chicken road show hosted by Women in Poultry Value Chain (WIPVaC), with support from the West Africa Food System Resilience Programme (FSRP).
The event was held to mark WIPVaC’s 8th anniversary celebrations.
According to Mr Dumelo, MoFA has received proposals for the construction of ultra-modern poultry and chicken processing facilities across the country as part of government’s ‘nkokor nkitinkiti” programme.
He said women will be supported and given priority during the rollout of the programme as part of job creation targets for women poultry farmers.
At the event, the public sampled hot, tasty nutritious grilled chicken with kenkey and there was also promotional sales of fresh, frozen, and homegrown chicken at off-market affordable prices.
Women In Poultry Value Chain is an umbrella organisation that seeks to bring together all women along the poultry value chain for common interests.
It comprises of aggregators of maize and soya, day-old chicks suppliers, dealers in poultry inputs such as shmeal, concentrates, poultry drugs and poultry feed, poultry

The goal is to create new opportunities for women along the poultry value chain to stimulate developments for the benet of society.
WIPVaC is a beneciary of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA-FSRP’s) Poultry Intensication Scheme (PIS), which commenced in 2024, under which they took delivery of input credit comprising of day-old-chicks, feeds, vaccines and training for broiler production.
Their frst cycle of production under the scheme is currently in the completion stage and ready for the market.
Gender Specialist at the FSRP, Ms Francisca Pobee, said the project was reviving collapsed farms and businesses.
She said the intervention was to ensure that women were able to take care of their families and help to improve the impact of climate change.
Madam Victoria Norgbe, the WIPVaC President, said the project, an input credit, was helping to reduce the challenges members of the Association faced in looking for day old chicks and other resources to manage the business.
She said the Road Show would promote the eating of Ghana chicken and grow the local economy.
FSRP is a Government of Ghana project being implemented by MoFA, sponsored by the World Bank and coordinated by ECOWAS.
