Ghana’s Under (U)-15 Girls’ team etched their name into the history books of intercontinental sports over the weekend by emerging champions of the African Schools Football Championship (ASFC) 2025.

The girls grabbed the title with a commanding 2-0 victory over Uganda at the University of Ghana Stadium on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

The young Ghanaian side’s victory was ensured by a decisive finish from two of their key players – Belinda Kpentey and Daniella Abass, who found the back of the net to cap off a stellar tournament run.

Belinda Kpentey opened the scoring after a brilliant solo effort by Christiana Ashiaku, who sprinted onto a loose ball, beat her markers and provided a perfect set-up for Kpentey to finish.

Daniella Abass then doubled Ghana’s advantage, showcasing remarkable composure with a clinical run and finish to seal the victory.

The U-15 Girls were brimming with confidence after an unbeaten group stage, claiming victories over Morocco, Benin and Malawi, and carried the same momentum into the semi-finals, where they edged past defending champions South Africa in a thrilling encounter to book their place in the final.

Uganda was equally impressive en route to the final, securing their spot after overcoming Morocco in the semi-final clash.

The gold medal marks a significant milestone for Ghana’s female youth football and highlights the promising future of the country’s next generation of talent.

The U-15 Boys

The U-15 Boys, on the other hand, rallied from behind to beat Uganda to clinch Bronze at the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship.

Even though the boys were disappointed for not making it into the finals, they pulled themselves back together in the poorly-started match to showcase a thrilling comeback performance to defeat Uganda 2-1 in the third-place match of the ASFC competition.

Under the guidance of coach Kwaku Danso, the young Ghanaian side displayed remarkable resilience and fighting spirit, overturning a first-half deficit to secure a podium finish at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Uganda, reeling from a semi-final defeat to Senegal on Friday, April 25, made a strong start and found an early breakthrough, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. However, the Ghanaian team emerged from the break with renewed determination, scoring two crucial goals in the second half to turn the contest on its head.

The victory not only sealed a memorable 2-1 win but also delivered Ghana’s first-ever medal in the history of the ASFC boys’ division.
