A delegation from the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) visited the head office of Ghana’s largest indigenous bank, GCB Bank PLC, on Thursday, 10th April 2025 to officially invite the bank to participate in the sixth edition of the Bankers’ League.
The visit formed part of the association’s trophy tour, which offers participating banks and their respective teams an opportunity to view the coveted trophy.
Scheduled to commence in June 2025, the league promises to be fun-packed and will feature over 20 teams.
“This is going to come home. It’s going to rest here. We are excited to be part of it,” said Emmanuel Odartey Lamptey, Deputy Managing Director of Operations (DMD, Ops) at GCB Bank, who received the delegation with enthusiasm.
He underscored the importance of such activities in deepening interbank collaboration and promoting team bonding while also highlighting the health benefits of sports for bankers, particularly given the sedentary nature of the profession.
Mr. Lamptey further took the opportunity to reaffirm the bank’s unwavering commitment to supporting communities through impactful corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
He linked the upcoming football league to GCB Bank’s dominance in the banking industry and its contribution to the socio-economic development of the nation. He commended the GAB for organising the league and assured them of the bank’s full support.
In his closing remarks, he threw a challenge to the other participating teams and promised a star-studded display of skill and tenacity, noting that the GCB Bank sports team is well known for its gallant performances in various competitions.
“We have a record-winning streak and are currently reigning champions of the Citi Olympics – a title we have held for eight consecutive years,” he added.
GCB Bank PLC remains a leading player in Ghana’s banking sector, with 184 branches, 340 ATMs and a network of banking agents across the country.
Since its establishment in 1953, the bank has grown into a systemic institution with significant contributions to Ghana’s development across multiple sectors, including oil and gas, agriculture and commerce.
Today, GCB Bank stands out as one of Ghana’s most modern banks, with advanced financial intermediation capabilities and robust digital payment platforms.
The bank continues to build its corporate reputation on a foundation of trust, support and collaboration, anchored in its brand promise: Your Bank for Life.
