…Police Ladies make history in Southern Zone

Ampem Darkoa Ladies has won the Northern Zone of the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League for the fourth successive time, setting up a final play-off clash with Southern Zone winners, Police Ladies.

The Techiman-based side clinched the zonal championship as early as match day 17 of the competition with a three-point difference. Their closest challengers, Dreamz Ladies, stumbled to a 2-1 loss to Supreme Ladies while Ampem Darkoa Ladies also succumbed 2-1 to Fosu Royal Ladies on Match day 18.

Regardless, Nanamma finished the campaign with 12 wins, one draw and five defeats, accruing 37 points to top the table.

Ampem Darkoa will meet the newly crowned Southern Zonal Champions, Police Ladies, in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League final on a later date in May.

Elsewhere in the Southern Zone, Police Ladies made history to clinch the championship after Hasaacas Ladies slipped off at the end.

After a hard-fought 2-0 win over FC Epiphany Warriors on the final match day at the Adjiriganor Astro Turf in Accra, Police Ladies cemented their top spot, two points clear of contenders Hasaacas Ladies. The two teams were joint top of the table with 36 points, separated only by goal difference, heading into the final match day.

Police Ladies are cruising into the grand finale of the league for the first time, following Hasaacas Ladies’ failure to pick up all three points at home against Jonina Ladies. The record title holders, Hasaacas Ladies, were pushed to the edge by Jonina Ladies in a thrilling match that ended 1-1, stalling their title hopes.

Police Ladies finished the campaign with 11 wins, six draws and one defeat, accruing 39 points. Police Ladies will now face the Northern Zonal Champions, Ampem Darkoa, in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League play-off finale.

Southern Zone Play-off Halifax Queens & Faith Ladies

According to the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League Rules and Regulations for the 2024/25 season, when there is a tie, head-to-head decides. After that, goal difference comes into play; but when neither cannot show a winner, then play-off is the next option.

The fate of Halifax Queens and Faith Ladies will be decided in a relegation play-off. Both sides drew 1-1 over two-legged encounters in the first and second rounds, respectively and are tied 8th and 9th on the league log with 13 points each.

In respect of that, the domestic competition’s committee and the competition’s department of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will soon announce the venue and time for the relegation decider.

On the other hand, the Southern Zone of the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League will miss the flamboyance of Berry Ladies, the lowest-performing side in the 2024/25 season.

It has been a turbulent season for the Madina-based side, whose performances couldn’t save them from relegation. They amassed just 7 points out of 18 matches and conceded 36 goals throughout the season.
