Alhaji Ishaq Dauda, the new Managing Director (MD) of Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, is poised to ensure that the mine is sustained.
“I am focused on ensuring that the mine survives and making the place better than we came to meet it,” he said.
Mr. Dauda made this statement when he, together with his management team, paid a visit to Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson at Sekondi.
He explained: “When we assumed office, there were some issues regarding the plant that was shut down and some salary arrears of staff, but we are taking appropriate steps to resolve them”.
As part of restructuring Prestea Sankofa, he said: “We may want to look at going into hard rock mining, but for now we want to stabilise the place and solve all the issues before looking at other options.
“Our old dam is almost full and we’ve been given the green light from the Minerals Commission to carry out an embankment raise (extension of the walls); and we are almost through with the EPA in getting a permit to continue the new construction we are undertaking,” he clarified.
He continued, “So, roughly in three months’ time, we will see a positive shift”.
Joseph Nelson, Western Regional Minister, congratulated the new MD, Alhaji Dauda, on his appointment.
He noted that the mine is an important facility in the region because of employment opportunities it offers.
“To have you as the new MD is refreshing and we are very hopeful that with your assumption things will improve by providing needed support to the people,” he said.
The Regional Minister added: “Going forward, we need to engage to see how we can make progress and improve upon any task given us. All challenges are surmountable and with time you’ll be able to overcome them”.
He advised, “Be focused, committed and shine; together with your team, you’ll succeed”.
The MD was accompanied by some senior management staff including Peter Kofi Ewoniah, Public Relations Officer; Samuel Ayamba, Head of Human Resources; John Baptist Bartie, Geological, Mining and Exploration Manager; and Francis Adarkwa Yiadom, Health, Safety and Environment Manager.
