Weave Ghana Limited, a leading hair care brand, has officially unveil the new packaging of its Mega Growth product, reinforcing its commitment to providing high-quality solutions tailored for the African woman’s hair.
The unveiling event, held in collaboration with professional hairdressers and salon owners, showcased Mega Growth’s refreshed packaging and its new campaign aimed at ensuring healthier hair treatment practices.
The brand’s revamped packaging features African women at its core, replacing previous designs that primarily displayed white models. This change, according to Angela Ayishetu Baba, Marketing Lead for Weave Ghana Limited—the producers of Mega Growth and Darling Hair in Ghana—reflects the brand’s mission to resonate with its primary consumers.
“In this dispensation where we have become number one in Africa, we want to ensure that the product resonates with the African woman. So, if you check the new package, you will see that we have put the African woman at the center. We have decluttered the whole pack to make it easy to read and also more convenient for consumers and hairdressers,” she stressed.
She emphasised that the updated packaging now includes a twin-pack that combines the relaxer and neutralising shampoo, improving ease of use for professionals in the industry.
Strengthening professional hairdressing practices
As part of the launch, Mega Growth announced its upcoming “Relax Right” campaign, a nationwide initiative focused on proper hair relaxation techniques.
This campaign, in collaboration with hairdressing associations, aims to educate professionals on the correct usage of relaxers to prevent hair damage, breakage, and scalp burns.
“When it comes to hair relaxing, it’s a professional service that requires expertise. You need to ensure that people are applying the chemical correctly on their clients’ hair. Every Mega Growth relaxer kit now comes with a free neutralizing shampoo to stop the chemical reaction after relaxing. This is essential for healthy hair growth,” Ms. Baba explained.
Through this campaign, Mega Growth will conduct training workshops across Ghana, equipping hairdressers with the knowledge and tools necessary to provide safer and more effective hair treatments.
Industry Experts Welcome the Initiative
The unveiling event also saw hairdressing professionals endorsing the new packaging and the upcoming campaign. They acknowledged that improper use of hair relaxers remains a major concern in the industry and that continuous education is necessary to uphold professional standards.
“The hairdressing business is built on skills and knowledge. Clients come to us because of our expertise, and it’s important to continuously upgrade our skills,” one industry expert stated.
Representative from hairdressing associations, Bernice Asantewaa Asante also stressed the importance of professional training, highlighting that members undergo bi-weekly training sessions and National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) proficiency exams to stay updated on best practices.
