Some concerned residents of Prestea in the Western Region, have expressed their grievances on the appointment of the new Managing Director (MD) of Prestea Sankofa Gold Mine, Alhaji Ishaque Dauda.
According to residents, the MD needs to be appointed from the constituency or within the Western Region.
“He is not from the region and must go immediately”, this, was contained in a Letter signed by 13-member executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency, and copied to the President, John Dramani Mahama, the Chief of Staff, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Western Regional Minister, Western Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Nteboa Pra IV, Himan Prestea Divisional Chief and Prestea Sankofa Gold Mine.
“We the people of Prestea Huni Valley have decided not to supply the company with tailings. We will not allow the numerous trucks to haul tailings through our communities to their plant site” the letter said.
“We supply about 85 to 90 percent of the company’s raw materials for their operations. Our constituency have not been awarded any national appointment despite great efforts made in the 2024 elections” the Letter pointed out.
Appointing an MD outside the constituency, the Letter said will have a negative effect on the government and in the near future elections since the previous government suffered similar defeat because of similar appointment outside the constituency.
“We have qualified persons within the constituency to occupy such positions. The new MD, the Letter alleged is the son of Collins Dauda, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asutsifi South Constituency of the Ahafo Region”.
“We therefore hope our plea would be considered and rescind the decision of appointing an MD zoutside the constituency”, the letter concluded.
