The Kumasi Evangel Choir (KEC), one of Ghana’s most celebrated choral groups, continues to set the bar high with its commitment to promoting Ghanaian music and culture as it held a groundbreaking national choral & composers’ competition (NCC) to celebrate talent, culture, and global impact.

The choir in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Royal Images Group and the Asante Cultural & Traditional Institute (ACTI) hosted the maiden edition of the landmark event that brought together some of the finest talents in the country.

The competition, held on 29th November 2024, celebrated the beauty of choral music and highlighted KEC’s remarkable achievements and collaborations over the years.

A Legacy of Excellence

KEC has a rich history of organizing prestigious musical events. Notably, the choir successfully organized and hosted the first-ever NCC in honour of Asentehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during his 25th anniversary commemoration.

This historic event, held with support from the choir’s distinguished patrons and corporate organizations, was a fitting tribute to the revered monarch and a celebration of Ghanaian musical artistry. The event received widespread acclamation for its flawless execution and the outstanding quality of compositions.

Building on this legacy, the recently concluded NCC reaffirmed KEC’s status as a pillar of Ghanaian choral music. The competition saw composers and choirs from across the nation showcase original works that blended traditional rhythms with contemporary styles, reflecting the dynamic evolution of Ghanaian music.

The collaboration with the GTA and Royal Images further elevated its profile, emphasising the cultural significance of choral music in Ghana’s tourism and creative sectors.

A Year of Global Milestones

The year 2024 was particularly special for KEC, as the choir was blessed with the opportunity to perform in five European countries: Germany, Sweden, the Czech Republic, France, and the Netherlands. Over the past five years, KEC has visited a total of 13 countries, receiving excellent performance certificates and leaving a lasting impression of Ghanaian artistry abroad.

These performances marked an incredible milestone in the choir’s journey, showcasing Ghanaian music on international stages.

The global recognition has also opened doors for future opportunities, with numerous invitations already lined up for 2025. With trust in the Almighty God, KEC is poised to continue its mission of sharing the beauty of Ghanaian choral music with the world.

Upcoming Programmes

KEC remains committed to delivering high-quality choral performances and enriching Ghana’s cultural landscape. The choir has an exciting lineup of events for the year: April – NCC commemorating Otumfuo’s 75th birthday; July – KEC’s 13th-anniversary celebration; August – Collaboration concert with Our Praise Choir from Maryland, USA; December – Christmas concert

 A Vision for the Future

As KEC continues to rise to new heights, its story is a testament to the transformative power of music in fostering unity, cultural pride, and global connection.

The NCC is expected to grow even further in the coming years, and KEC’s leadership ensures that it remains a cornerstone of Ghana’s cultural calendar. With their eyes set on future milestones and their hearts rooted in faith, the Kumasi Evangel Choir continues to illuminate the path for Ghanaian music on the global stage.
