The Upper West (UW) Regional Hospital has received an ultrasound machine and assorted medical equipment, including consumables, valued close to three thousand Ghana cedis from Virtue foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), to improve healthcare delivering in the Upper West Region.
Virtue Foundation’s mission is to deliver quality healthcare to those in need while working to create an efficient marketplace for global healthcare delivery through machine learning and AI.
It is on this backdrop that the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sissala East, who doubles as the country director for Virtue Foundation, Mohammed Issa Battaglia, made the donation on behalf of the organisation; aimed to improve healthcare delivering in the region.
In a brief statement, the Country Director, Mohammed Issa Battaglia, noted that the regional hospital has demonstrated its commitment to improving healthcare in the region. “I am sure the Medical Director, Dr. Robert Amesiya, and the entire team at the regional hospital have shown commitment to improving healthcare delivery. As partners, Virtue Foundation has decided to support them in a small but meaningful way to enhance healthcare delivery. Knowing that the regional hospital serves as a hub for referrals since most serious cases from my constituency are sent there, equipping them is the only way to help alleviate the suffering of our people in the region and beyond.”
Mohammed Issa Battaglia added that it has been tried and tested that any donation made to the regional hospital, under the leadership of Dr. Amesiya, is put into good use; and he was sure that these equipment will also be put to good use. He expressed confidence that the donated equipment would also be utilised effectively to benefit ordinary Ghanaians.
Dr. Robert Amesiya, Medical Director of the hospital, received the medical items on behalf of the staff and management and applauded Virtue Foundation for coming to their aid. “This is not the first time we are receiving donations from Virtue Foundation. I believe this demonstrates the foundation’s commitment to addressing gaps in our hospital, which is heartwarming. I want to assure the foundation, especially the Sissala East MP – who is a member of the foundation, that these items will be put to good use.”
Dr. Robert Amesiya further added that the hospital received an ultrasound machine for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit along with other assorted items, including medical and non-medicine consumables, some which are difficult to come by. “They didn’t just donate to us what they wanted, but they consulted us to find out what we needed and exactly that is what they have donated to us,” he said
Dr. Robert also appealed to benevolent individuals and organisations to support the hospital, as it serves as the referral centre in the region.
Virtue Foundation has made similar donation in the Sissala East Municipality worth four hundred thousand Ghana cedis, which included medical equipment, consumable and non-consumables.
