Kwahu-Abene came alive last weekend as the kingmakers of the Kwahu Traditional Council, in a historic ceremony, enstooled a native from the Etena family of Nkwatia, Baffour Akoto Osei – an astute Civil Engineer, as the new paramount Chief (Kwahumanhene), marking a new era for the people of Kwahu.

The four kingmakers who enstooled the new Kwahumanhene are the Krontihene of Abene, Nana Simpe Wiredu III; Akyeamehene of Abene, Nana Asiedu Kwabeng; Baamuhene of Abene, Nana Ntim Sampong II; and the Werempehene of Abene, Baffour Kyerefuor Nyarko I.

With his ascension to the throne, Baffour Akoto has been bestowed with the stool name Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III.

The enstoolment process

Saturday, 25th January, 2025 was in deed a new dawn for Kwahuman as a fresh wind of peace and royalty blew over the city of Abene, the traditional seat of governance, to usher the people to glory.

Synonymous of Ghanaian traditional cultures, the ceremony was very colourful, an intertwine of traditional music and drumming with dances, as well as display rich customs and traditional regalia depicting the rich traditions of the chiefs and people of the area.

The demonstration of the start of a new dawn for the people, the enstoolment tradition started as early as 5:00am, with the gathering of the kingmakers at the royal palace. By 6:00am, key sacred rites and traditional rituals laid down for such an exercise were performed by the Queen mother and appropriate authorities empowered to do so in the sacred room.

The newly-enstooled Kwahumanhene took his oath of allegiance administered by the Abetifihene -Akyemfuo Asiedu Agyeman III, who is also the Adontenhene of the area and acting Kwahumanhene.

Upon the completion of the first part of the brief but rigorous laid down traditions, Baffour Akoto Osei was then brought to the palace chamber and properly ushered to his stool; after which he was adorned with powder to signify victory, glory and honour.

He was flanked by his Council of Elders and some key dignitaries who came to share solidarity with the chief. This included a delegation form the office of the former President of the Republic, John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor.

The second part of the ceremony was when the new chief was shown to the public and was given his new title amid merrymaking and display of cultural elegance.

The Adontenhene urged the people to continue to pray for the new chief to succeed in whatever he would do to improve their living conditions; and also urged Daasebre to be a listening leader.
