TTU VC reaffirms commitment to delivering quality education

The Vice Chancellor of the Takoradi Technical University (TTU), Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, has reaffirmed the University’s commitment to delivering quality education, fostering robust industry partnerships and equipping graduates with knowledge and skills needed to excel in their chosen fields.



“We pledge to uphold our mission of academic excellence, research, innovation and community engagement, ensuring that today’s graduates are well-prepared to make meaningful contributions to society and industry,” he said.

Additionally, he said the university remains dedicated to maintaining a supportive and conducive learning environment, continually striving to enhance the overall student experience.

The Vice Chancellor of TTU was speaking at the 24th Congregation ceremony of the university in Takoradi, which also coincides with its 70th anniversary celebration.

Data of 2024 graduands

The university, he mentioned, successfully churn out 2,678 graduands. In all, 695 were awarded Bachelor of Technology degrees and 1,983 were also awarded with Higher National Diploma. Also, 579 individuals were awarded with Diploma of Technology certificates as 129 received Competency Based Training certificates.

More so, he said a total of 25 students with disabilities, comprising twenty-four hearing-impaired students and one with physical disabilities graduated, bringing a total number of deaf students graduated by the University to 189 since the establishment of the Disability Support and Services Unit in 2017.

Establishment of new faculties and programmes

According to Rev. Eshun, the university has established three new faculties; the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences, the Faculty of Maritime and Nautical Studies as well as Faculty of Media Technology and Liberal Studies – formally CELLIBS, making a total of eight faculties.

He pointed out that the university, currently offers a range of Bachelor of Technology (BTech) and Master of Technology (MTech) programmes, catering for the diverse needs of students and industry. “As part of our commitment to academic excellence and innovation, we are in the process of introducing PhD programmes in Business Analytics and Technology Management to expand our academic portfolio. Our long-term goal is to develop PhD programmes across all faculties, ensuring that we provide advanced research and learning opportunities that align with the evolving demands of both academia and industry.”

He revealed that new programmes were introduced this year; namely, BSc. Event Management, BSc. Real Estate Management, B. Tech. Media and Communication Technology.

On research and publication, he said the university is leading the way in fostering research collaborations with local and international institutions.

“In line with this, we have introduced an inter-faculty research and publication ranking system to assess, promote and enhance a research culture and academic performance,” he added.

He explained that this initiative aims to nurture scholarly excellence among academic staff, increase the university’s visibility and improve its standing in research rankings.

Advice

The Vice Chancellor of TTU advised: “Be exemplary envoys of Takoradi Technical University, embodying the spirit of our cherished motto: Mind, Heart and Hands for Development.

“I encourage all graduands to stay connected and actively contribute to the growth and success of TTU after graduation. This strengthens the bond between the university and its alumni network. May you serve as instruments of positive change and hope for Ghana,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to management and staff of TTU for the countless hours of hard work, mentorship and support over the years.
