Tech Hub Africa LLC, an organisation dedicated to building a thriving tech ecosystem across Africa is set to empower innovators on the continent to scale up and further bridge the digital divide, creating the path for Africa to be recognised as a global leader in technology.
According to Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Tech Hub, Jemima Prempeh, to achieve the organisation’s aim, they seek to leverage their expertise and knowledge in the space to mentor, coach, nurture and fund the ideas of young innovators in the country and the continent.
She made this known at the launch of Tech Hub, emphasising the need to harness young people’s tech skills to prepare Africa for its entry into the tech space.
Ms. Prempeh who doubles as the Co-Founder of the organisation noted that the uniqueness of Tech Hub is the partnership and funding it brings to the space describing these factors as the main hurdles for many young people preventing them from accessing the numerous opportunities in the sector.
“What we are bringing on board differently is a partnership; I think most African start-ups lack that opportunity. They have the idea but they don’t have the support. So, we are bringing on board mentorship, funding and investors,” she said.
Tech Hub Africa co-founded by two sisters Doreen Awuku-Agyeman and Jemima Prempeh aims to foster a vibrant eco-system that nurtures creative ideas, offers funding and accelerates the growth of homegrown technologies.
The launch coincided with the grand finale of Tech Hub Africa’s Startup Pitch Competition where the CEO of Wobil Tech Ltd, John Wobil, took home US$1000 with mentorship and support from Tech Hub as the winner of the maiden edition of the competition.
Delivering the keynote address, CEO of Genescis and Global Sky Limited, Mavis Leonards, described Tech Hub as a movement reiterating its main agenda to make tech innovation sustainable, inclusive and impactful by offering mentorship and funding to entrepreneurs who dare to dream.
Given the statistics on Africa’s youthful population, drive to venture into the world of tech and some existing innovations making waves on the continent such as the fly doctors in Nigeria and other innovations, she expressed optimism about the continent’s future in tech.
Mrs. Leonards challenged women to let go of their fears and venture into the tech and securities space to collectively put Africa on the map.
“My background is management and not science. So, if I have been able to move into the sciences and technology, why can’t you do the same? I encourage more women to come on board and become tech-savvy to put Africa on the map,” she said.
In her opening remarks, the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Doreen Agyeman, commended them for their tireless effort and dedication to their vision. She urged everyone to partner with them and work together to empower African innovators and entrepreneurs.
Looking into the future, she announced their flagship programme dubbed “Tech Showcase” for July 2025 to celebrate African innovation and excellence.
