Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) incumbent, has expressed gratitude to the good people of Takoradi for retaining him in the seat.
“I am grateful to the people that – irrespective of the Tsunami that seems to have happened across the length and breadth of the country during the 2024 elections – they have retained me.
“I want to encourage the New Patriotic Party (NPP) faithfuls who did not vote in the recent elections to be patriotic in the 2028 elections. If you look at the political party history of this country, despite not developing the Volta Region as expected, the residents there continue to support the National Democratic Congress party,” he said.
He continued: “I am appealing to our NPP supporters that if there are some difficulties, let’s talk in-house rather than showing it publicly by not voting because the NPP has always been the number-one developer”.
Mr. Darko-Mensah was speaking to B&FT during an interview in Takoradi
He said the party has continued to serve its purpose of promoting a property-owning democracy – which includes three pillars including life, freedom and opportunities: “We have been able to deliver”.
He pointed out that the NPP introduced the National Health Insurance Scheme – “And today it has even extended to kidney dialysis and childhood cancer treatment.
“We have made a number of investments in the areas of roads, transmission, technology and Information Communication Technology (ICT),” Mr. Darko-Mensah said.
According to him, introducing the Free Senior High School policy increased enrolment in schools and ensured that each household can have at least one elite person.
“So, if we have been able to serve these broad areas, the NPP should not have been punished this way” Mr. Darko-Mensah added.
The campaign for the 2028 general elections, he said, started immediately after the December 7 2024 general elections – “So we want everybody to be on board”.
He mentioned that the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has conceded and congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama – and everyone in the country is already aware.
On tension created by certain people in the country in terms of property being destroyed, he counselled that it should be a thing of the past.
“To the NDC, I believe they should listen to their leader, John Mahana, because we have already congratulated him. Ghana belongs to all of us and those creating problems all over the country should listen to him, everyone should be calm. When it comes to opportunities that your party wants to give you, it will be done,” he advised.
He said: “Don’t be illegally taking over property you have not being assigned by your party. There are laid-down processes in the country on how people are going to be employed, given positions among others.
“It is not proper and those who are leading them – and those who are secretly behind them – should stop. The law will catch up with them even if it takes 200 years.”
