Ahantaman Rural Bank PLC has presented 20 leather-covered mattresses and GH¢1,000 cash to Kwesimintsim Government Hospital.
According to the bank’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Benjamin Afful-Eshun, the amount is to support the hospital purchase consumables needed for managing cholera cases.
“The donation is in response to a request made by the hospital for mattresses and other logistics because patients were on the floor and benches,” he explained.
Also, he said, the support is meant to ameliorate the discomfort of patients.
“This year being our 40th anniversary celebration we have already closed the chapter, but cholera cases at the hospita is an emergency situation. We are glad to have been able to support,” he stated.
Dr. Simon Osei Frimpong, Medical Superintendent of Kwesimintsim Government Hospital explained: “It’s been a month now since we started recording cholera cases. Unfortunately, we lost the first person who reported to the hospital because he reported late”.
In a day, he said, the facility receives an average of between 15 to 20 patients.
“We have a big challenge when it comes to space for patients. We have converted one of our waiting areas into a ward. Logistics and consumables to take care of patients are also a challenge,” he said.
He said cholera treatment is free and that one patient can take more than 15 litres of IV fluids in a day. “So, we are appealing to those who can support us financially or buy the items for us to come to our aid.”
He expressed appreciation to Ahantaman Rural Bank PLC for their timely support.
