The launch event, held under the theme ‘Unlocking the Power of Omnichannel Platforms for Modern Customers’, brought together senior banking professionals to explore how this cutting-edge solution can future-proof their institutions and provide seamless, tailored services for the customers of tomorrow.
In his opening remarks, Group Chief Executive-Clydestone, Paul Tse Jacquaye, underscored the solution’s capabilities in addressing key issues of the financial space and its ability to “interact with customers to derive mutual benefits for both parties”.
Senior Director and Africa Region Head of Tagit, Abhishek Atreja, reiterated the role of omnichannel solutions in reaching the unbanked – adding that presence in the financial space brings “global exposure, opportunities and expertise to the digital banking space”.
“Our prime objective is everybody should have access to financial services. That’s what financial inclusion is all about….. So, with the help of our digital banking platform we can reach out to that last-mile non-bank customer as well, either through agency banking or USSD or wallet solution,” he noted.
He noted that they bring some unique qualities to the digital banking space, such as having a flexible platform that allows companies to onboard multiple applications and other technology-inclined partners.
“You can have third-party applications and onboard other partners, but it is restricted to only tech companies. Also, the solution’s advantage is that integration can be done by the company so we don’t need to fall back on Tagit or our partner, Clydestone,” he elaborated.
Mr. Jacquaye reiterated that the solution is API-enabled – hence one can add bill payments, an account, travel ticketing or any separate application to order a ride or food, transfer money, pay bills and so many other things.
The conference also featured a panel discussion that delved into the opportunities and challenges of collaboration between fintechs and banks. During this session, panellists identified the scope of work, shared risk & reward and work culture differences, among others, as challenges that hinder successful collaboration between the two entities.
They unanimously underscored the power of collaboration between the two parties and highlighted some successful collaborations.
“I think through this partnership with the ghana.gov consortium and banks, government has been able to sanitise their collections of revenue. For banks, it has opened up a third platform to operate in,” Head-Digital Banking and Alternative Delivery Channels, Advans Ghana, Amand Abban noted.
Tagit is an award-winning digital banking solutions provider headquartered in Singapore, with a strong track record in designing, developing and deploying digital solutions for leading banks across Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
For his part, Director for Project and Technology at Tagit, Selvaraj Karumalai, emphasised companies protecting the data on their platforms and described measures taken to enhance data security.
“Since we are dealing in banking, security is a primary concern. Even though the world is going toward API-based architecture, data security is critical and we are strong in that area. So, we encrypt the data both ways; either from your channel to the system or system to channel,” he emphasised.
Atreja expressed optimism about the future of their partnership with Clydestone, saying: “I hope for a long-lasting and successful partnership to serve the financial institutions well”.
