The new President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), Stephane Abass Miezan, has said he is committed to championing the interest of businesses.

“As new executives of the chamber, we want to ensure that we advocate more for our members, in terms of taxes, clearing of goods at the ports, climate change, digitisation of businesses, among others,” he said.

Mr. Miezan said this at an end-of-year meeting with members of the GNCCI at Takoradi, Western Region.

The occasion gave the new executives the opportunity to say thank you to members of the chamber for the confidence reposed in them – electing them to serve a two-year term.

“We want to build four office complexes out of the eight administrative offices that the chamber has across the country. We would start with Takoradi, Tarkwa, Kumasi and Tema,” he said.

He mentioned that the chamber would introduce Youth Clubs at the colleges and universities across the country. “We will educate and prepare students to be entrepreneurs, the need to form partnerships in business, among others; so that after completion of their studies, they would create jobs for themselves rather than look up to the government for non-existent jobs,” he explained.

Moreover, Mr. Miezan said the chamber would set up an online TV channel for members to advertise and promote their businesses.

Dr. Emelia Assiakwa, 1st Vice President of GNCCI, advised members to digitise their business for people across the world to know the nature of business they are engaged in.

“We are here to serve you better, support your businesses to grow and get a better result,” she remarked.

He urged the new council members to strengthen the trade sector of their businesses to be viable.

Nana Kaku Bulu, a member of the Council of Elders at GNCCI, encouraged members of the chamber to make Western Region the hub of business.

Explaining further, he said: “Form alliances because the joint venture model is really working well. It works faster to get your products and services to the international market”.

Similarly, Lord Segbeawu, Charman of the Western Region Branch of GNCCI, said the office will continue to work tirelessly to promote the interests of the members.

“We urge you to continue supporting us with your time, expertise and availability. In the coming year, we aim to build on our successes and work closely with each of you to develop our chamber, into a vibrant and effective organisation. Together, let us strive to create a better business environment and make our chamber a beacon of excellence,” he added.

Mark Badu Aboagye, Chief Executive Officer of the GNCCI concluded that by working together, “we can build the chamber and move the country forward”.
