The 1998-year group of the Fijai Old Students Association (FOSA) has handed over a pergola to the school.
The occasion also coincided with the year group’s anniversary after completion of senior high secondary school in 1998.
According to the year group, the pergola symbolises their commitment to the continuous development and success of the school.
The celebration had the theme ‘Overcoming challenges, building resilience, and sustaining excellence through education: The role of the class of ’98’.
Speaking at the commissioning of the structure, President of FOSA ’98 group, Francis Hooper, said: “We recognised the need for a dedicated area on campus where students can engage in extra-curricular activities, where parents and guardians can have a welcoming place for visitation, and where clubs and community groups can gather, learn and thrive”.
He expressed appreciation to FOSA 98 group for their untiring support and sacrifices that has ensured that the completion of the structure.
“Today, we celebrate much more than just the years gone by; we celebrate the experiences, the challenges and the victories that have shaped who we’ve become. We’ve built careers, families and countless memories. We’ve had successes, failures and lessons learned; and through it all, we’ve stayed connected in some way, even if only by memories shared. We thank our teachers, mentors and families who supported us back then,” FOSA 98 Year Group said.
Mr. Hooper admonished the management of the school to ensure proper maintenance of the structure, adding: “It is our hope that future students and teachers alike will cherish this space and that with proper care, it will serve an enduring symbol of our love and support for our school”.
Kenneth Dotse Agbomazi, the Headmaster of Fijai SHS was appreciative of the 1998 Year Group for constructing the pergola.
He promised the pergola will be properly maintained, adding: “We need accommodation for staff to improve supervision in the evening, especially on weekends. Our girls’ dormitory block, which was started in 2019, has come to a standstill. We wish it would be completed to ease congestion at the place”.
