RIFE Energy delivers solar energy project to NITA

RIFE Energy Ghana, in partnership with Empower New Energy, has successfully delivered a transformative solar energy project at the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) in Accra.

This 507 kWp roof- and carport-mounted solar PV installation underscores Ghana’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainability.

This groundbreaking project signifies a pivotal milestone in the drive towards sustainable energy solutions and environmental sustainability in Ghana.



The project is designed to generate an impressive 696,000 kWh of clean energy annually, the project reduces NITA’s energy costs and carbon footprint of about 497 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually while supporting its mission to drive technological advancements through sustainable energy solutions.

The solar plant was officially commissioned in the presence of dignitaries, including Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Ghana’s Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, who emphasized the nation’s dedication to integrating innovative green solutions into infrastructure.

Her remarks emphasized “this project exemplifies our unwavering commitment to integrating renewable energy into our national renewable energy agenda.

It reinforces our focus on energy security, environmental stewardship and the creating of a resilient green digital infrastructure capable of supporting our growth in a era defined by climate conscious progress”.

Norway’s Ambassador to Ghana, Ingrid Mollestad, also applauded the partnership for paving the way toward a greener future. “It is inspiring to see the partnership between Empower New Energy, NITA, and RIFE realising this highly innovative solar solution.

NITA’s new car park- and roof-mounted solar plant is an excellent example of how collaboration can lead to a greener, more resilient future for Ghana.”

Richard Okyere-Fosu, NITA’s Director-General, added: “This groundbreaking solar initiative not only advances renewable energy adoption but also represents our unwavering commitment to innovation and sustainability.

By integrating solar PV into our operations, we are taking proactive steps to reduce our carbon footprint and operational costs while fulfilling our mission to champion technology-driven solutions.”

Director of RIFE Energy Ghana, Kwaku Osei-Sarpong, also pointed out “The launch of this hybrid solar energy system underscores the remarkable impact of collaboration.

“With RIFE Energy Ghana at the forefront, supported by Empower New Energy and the visionary leadership of NITA and the Ministry of Communications, we have set a new benchmark for sustainable infrastructure in Ghana, proving that innovation thrives when driven by collective effort.”

Terje Osmundsen, CEO of Empower New Energy, expressed pride in the partnership, stating: “We are honoured to collaborate with NITA and RIFE Energy Ghana on this modern and unique solar project, marking Empower New Energy’s fourth solar investment in Ghana. This project is a model for innovation and sustainability.”

The collaboration reflects a 15-year agreement between Empower New Energy and NITA, showcasing the role of private-public partnerships in advancing SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

RIFE Energy Ghana took the lead in engineering, procurement (EPC) and construction with support from its subcontractor Tino Solutions Limited, setting new standards for quality and efficiency in the sector.

This solar plant reaffirms Ghana’s leadership in renewable energy adoption and sets a benchmark for future projects across the region.
