Four Senior High Schools (SHS) from three regions Northern, Greater-Accra and Volta regions have received 3,200 students’ mono-desks by Kosmos Energy Ghana to support academic work.
The move was informed by a thorough need assessment of the selected schools in the beneficiary regions for the support.
The beneficiary schools are the Savelugu Senior High School, in the Northern Region, the Ningo and Prampram senior high schools in the Greater Accra Region respectively, receiving 1,000 mono-desks each.
This Tsiame Senior high School in the Keta Municipality of Volta Region also received 200 mono-desks to improve the furniture needs of the school.
At the ceremony, Mr. Appia Kyei, the Director New Ventures, Kosmos Energy, Ghana, who led the team on behalf of Senior Vice President and Head of the Ghana Business Unit, Mr. Joe Mensah.
He stated that these support programmes are intended to supplement the efforts of the government, parents-teacher associations, and the schools’ administration to improve the learning conditions of students and stimulate their desire to excel in their education.
He urged the students and the management of the beneficiary schools to take good care of the desks to ensure it lasts for future students of the schools.
The Director New Ventures encouraged students to take their academic work seriously and work hard and emerged as strong, skilled citizens and improve the country’s human resource capital and as citizens who would assume leadership of the country in future.
The leadership of the beneficiary schools have expressed their profound gratitude for the donations, as it would provide significant relief to the students.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, the Headmaster of Prampram SHS, Mr. Peter Djan, said the donation, will eliminate the hustle of students who have to take their WAEC Examinations in shifts since they did not have enough desks for all eligible students to write their respective papers in one sitting.
The KEG Humanitarian Relief Initiative, began in 2022, with a focus on schools with special needs. It has supported four Schools for Children with Special Needs in the Western, Eastern, Ashanti, and Northern Regions.
KEG acknowledges the importance of education in the growth and prosperity of the countries in which it operates, hence this initiative.
