Coronation Insurance and the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) have achieved a groundbreaking milestone in advancing technological innovation in Ghana with the launch of an AI Laboratory.
The initiative which costs US$50,000 was generously sponsored by Coronation Insurance, UENR and Coral Reef, demonstrating their shared commitment to fostering technological advancements and educational growth in Ghana.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)was officially signed on 25th November 2024 at the UENR campus in Sunyani, Ghana.
This partnership marks a significant collaboration between the parties. The initiative has been expertly facilitated by Coral Reef, an organization dedicated to bridging the gap between education and technology.
This innovative partnership is designed to empower the next generation of IT professionals, data scientists, and AI experts while fostering operational efficiency and driving innovation across sectors.
The new AI Laboratory will act as a hub for cutting-edge research, specialized training programs, and industry-led projects, creating a vibrant ecosystem of knowledge exchange.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof Elvis Asare-Bediako, Vice Chancellor at UENR remarked: “This partnership aligns with UENR’s mission to lead in research and innovation.
By working with Coronation Insurance, through the facilitation of Coral Reef, we are equipping our students and researchers with tools like this AI Laboratory and customized laptops to address real-world challenges using data science and AI technologies.”
Dr. Boahemaa Ntim, Country Manager of Coral Reef, emphasized Coral Reef’s pivotal role in the initiative, saying: “For the work that we do, we don’t just sell solutions. Beyond providing technology, we also train and help establish AI Labs, retooling lecturers and teachers to integrate AI technologies into education.

This initiative includes the provision of customized laptops specifically configured for AI and data science applications to benefit UENR students and faculty.
Additionally, the initiative will facilitate collaborative research projects aimed at developing AI-driven solutions tailored to various industries, bridging the gap between academic innovation and practical industry applications.
