Judith Eyram Akwetey, founder of Agrimecarb, emerged winner of the pitching competition at the second cohort closing ceremony of the Entrepreneurship with Bola Ray (EWithBR) initiative.
She walked away with a cash prize of GH¢10,000 to support her venture.
Speaking to B&FT, she mentioned: “At Agrimecarb we use the black soldier fly – which is a very unique insect – to transform organic waste. I mean any form of industrial, agricultural or domestic waste into animal-feed and organic fertiliser.”
She expressed gratitude to the BR Institute and Bola Ray as well as mentors for their mentorship and guidance in growing their businesses.
“I’m short of words; actually, I’m so filled with joy and at the same time I’m grateful that all the time and knowledge the mentors, Bola Ray and his team put into us has come to fruition,” she noted.
“All I can say is thank you to the BR Institute and thank you to each and every person who has put time into making this happen,” she added.
Akwetey’s winning pitch was among several presented by the programme’s participants. Joseph Anokye, CEO-Mushplus AgriFoods, and Daisy-Alice Mawuena Zigre, CEO-DMD Catering, took home cash prizes of GH¢6,000 and GH¢4,000 respectively as the first and second runners-up.
The ceremony was held in Accra and marked the end of a three-month programme aimed at nurturing aspiring entrepreneurs. It also showcased the participants’ innovative business ideas and entrepreneurial skills.
Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi, popularly known as Bola Ray – Founder and Executive Chairman of the Entrepreneurship with Bola Ray (EWithBR) initiative and Bola Ray Institute – commended the participants for their dedication and passion.
“We are here to witness the passion and commitment you bring to your businesses every day. Our mission is to impact lives and empower dreams. Each of you has proven that with determination and focus you can achieve greatness,” he noted.
The EWithBR initiative, launched in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in September 2024, has empowered numerous young entrepreneurs in Ghana. The programme’s alumni have achieved significant milestones, including representing Ghana at the Global Entrepreneurship Festival in Nigeria.
