The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has inaugurated a US$100 million Oil and Gas Services Terminal at the Port of Takoradi.
The project, started in November 2022 was completed within two years, with funds from the Government of Ghana and China Harbour Engineering Company as the contactor with GTYD as the engineer.
It has a Quay wall of 550 meters and a draft of 10 meters deep and comes with 200,000m serviced land area for siting of oilfield operators, logistics service providers, operational offices, workshops and storage facilities, among others.
The terminal, is a world-class shore-based logistics platform within the port, featuring offshore supply vessel (OSV) berthing facilities and serviced waterfront land to support offshore oil and gas exploration and production operations.
Inauguration of the Terminal
President Akufo-Addo said the facility, is a bold step to showcase Ghana’s progress in becoming a leading hub for the oil and gas industry.
He said this, is a key milestone that will streamline offshore supply services, enhance heavy engineering and fabrication activities as well as provide a comprehensive suite of services for the petroleum exploration industry. “This terminal strengthens Ghana’s position as a competitive destination for oil the and gas operation” he added
The Port, the President said has the Atlantic Container and Multipurpose Terminal and a new dry bulk terminal.
“This is a transformative project, one that underscore the unwavering commitment for government to enhancing Ghana’s economic competitiveness” he added
Mr. Michael A. Luguje, Director General of GPHA was grateful to the President for the transformation he has brought to the Ports of Takoradi and Tema all these years.
Now, he said importers and exporters have two Ports to choose from in doing business. “I am inviting the oil and gas companies to come to the Takoradi Port, which is developed and serves as a one-stop-shop for them”.
He mentioned that in the past five years, GPHA has been able to provide about 3,000 permanent jobs for the people of Ghana; this is very impactful.
Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, the Minister for Transport was thankful to the President for initiating a lot of developmental projects that has brought a lot of economic progress to the country.
He was hopeful that the terminal, will allow for the smooth operation of the oil and gas supply chain.
Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, Western Regional Minister pointed out that the Port, which was built in 1928 has seen a lot transformation from government over the past eight years.
“There’s has been a lot of employment opportunities for the people; the oil and gas terminal will have a positive impact on the operations at the Takoradi Port.
Peter Amoo-Bediako, Director of Port, Takoradi commended the President, for changing the once labeled dying Port of Takoradi into an economic viable one, competing with the Port of Tema.
He expressed gratitude to the Minister of Transport and the Western Regional Minister for their unequivocal role, played in ensuring the completion of the Oil and Gas Terminal.
He called on stakeholders to help promote and then make the Terminal attractive to the players in the Oil and Gas industry.
