Coffee lovers from Accra and beyond had a thrilling and fun-filled weekend as the Ghana Coffee Week was climaxed with a convivial event dubbed ‘Ghana Coffee Fair and Exhibition’ last Saturday.
The Nyaniba Market in Osu, which was the venue for the event, was abuzz with excitement and merriment as hundreds of coffee lovers thronged the place to cap off a week of intensive and productive engagements and activities related to the growth of the Ghanaian coffee industry.
With much to eat and drink in an environment dominated by great music and interactive games, patrons had a great time fraternising, networking and creating connections as some bid to expand their space in the coffee production chain in the country.
Entrepreneurs and coffee product makers who mounted stands saw the worth of their efforts and investments as patrons spent time engaging with them to appreciate their products. Some patrons even purchased the items.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the event, National Programme Coordinator for the International Trade Centre, Larry Attipoe, indicated his impression with the event, noting that after a week of rigorous engagements on the coffee sector, it was imperative that the stakeholders unwind and network in an atmosphere of congeniality.
Larry Attipoe stated he met some great persons and believes that the coffee celebration will serve as a great platform for the growth of the coffee industry.
“I have had great fun. I can’t even recollect the number of cups of coffee. There are new coffee and cocoa products that I got exposed to. The music was great too, and I had so much fun,” he said.
Mr. Attipoe also disclosed that his outfit has been thrilled with this year’s event and that based on the positive response, the next edition will be significantly better – with a national concept.
“We started this year’s edition on a very light note, with little noise and publicity to test the reaction. We have been overwhelmed with the response, and next year we will go on a national and bigger scale to attract people,” he said.
Patrons also shared their experiences, noting that the fair exposed them to the great offerings in the Ghanaian coffee sector. “I went around the various stands and saw some great products. I even bought some cream because I’m convinced it will help me,” said one reveller.
Another patron said: “But for today, I didn’t know we even produced Ghanaian coffee, let alone all these products made from it. I have had great fun. I think the organisers should do this more often to draw the public’s attention to the richness of Ghanaian coffee”.
The Ghana Coffee Week, which was held from October 21 to October 26, 2024, was aimed at revitalising Ghana’s coffee industry with a focus on Robusta coffee.
