Business leaders have been urged to view the country’s increasing environmental challenges as opportunities to innovate and adapt, driving the green transformation it urgently needs.

The President of Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), Dr. Clement Osei Amoako, said this in a keynote address at the 4th Chamber Business Awards in Accra September 27, 2024, adding that green growth demands a collective effort where businesses, government, communities and individuals unite to share knowledge, resources and expertise.

“Collaboration is key. No single entity can solve the complex environmental challenges we face. It is only through such collaboration that we can fully unlock the potential of adaptability and innovation. Our pursuit must transcend profit. We have a responsibility to protect and preserve the environment for future generations, ensuring that our businesses contribute to both economic prosperity and environmental sustainability,” he elaborated.

Additionally, he called for a collective effort in fighting the country’s illegal mining menace.

“We must acknowledge that illegal mining, or ‘galamsey’, is a major and pressing environmental challenge threatening our agricultural sector – the backbone of our economy – and the livelihoods of countless citizens.

“I urge each of you, in your respective capacities, to join the fight against this menace and other environmental threats. By embracing green opportunities, Ghana’s private sector can not only adapt to global trends, but also take a leading role in shaping a sustainable future.”
