In line with this commitment, the 2023/2024 batch of National Service Personnel at CalBank has successfully completed the renovation and expansion of a 6-unit classroom block at Nii Sowa Dinn Basic School, located at Ashaley Botwe, in the Greater Accra Region.
The school, which serves many children in the area, was facing severe infrastructure challenges, with only four out of six classrooms functional and the remaining two barely having a proper foundation.
Recognizing the urgent need for improvement, the 2023/2024 batch of National Service Personnel at CalBank decided to take action. With teamwork and commitment, they mobilized resources, with the bulk of the project’s funding coming from the service personnel’s own monthly allowances.
Their contributions were supplemented by financial support from CalBank, which helped ensure the project met its budget of GHS168,792.
The project, which took three months to complete, involved constructing the two unfinished classrooms from the ground up, replacing the entire roof, and installing new windows, doors, and louvre blades. Additionally, the entire building was plastered, repainted, and made ready for students from Class 1 to Class 6.
This transformation has provided a much-needed boost to the school, creating a conducive learning environment for the children in the community.
Kevin Yeboah, President of the 2023/2024 National Service Personnel at CalBank, expressed his gratitude and pride in the team’s accomplishment. “This project has been close to our hearts from the beginning. Seeing how the students will now have a better, safer space to learn is deeply rewarding. We’re proud to have contributed to something that will have a lasting impact on the community,” he emphasized.
Andy Appianin Asiedu, Head, People & Culture of CalBank, also commended the efforts of the service personnel: “At CalBank, we believe in giving back to the communities we serve. Our National Service Personnel have shown great leadership in seeing this project through. Their commitment reflects the values we uphold as a bank. We’re incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved.”
Expressing her gratitude, the Headmistress of Nii Sowah Dinn Basic School, Selina Kokui Ahiaku, said, “We are extremely grateful for this extraordinary act of kindness. This renovation will significantly enhance the learning experience for our students, providing them with a more conducive learning environment. We solemnly pledge to maintain these classrooms with the utmost care, ensuring they serve as a valuable resource for generations of learners to come.”
The completion of this project forms part of an annual initiative by National Service Personnel at CalBank, where each new batch undertakes a significant project to positively impact local communities. This tradition not only gives back to society but also builds a sense of responsibility and leadership among the young professionals.
