Mahogany Consult, a public relations, events and change management consultancy firm, in partnership with the Future Communicators Foundation (FCF) Scholarship, is offering a scholarship covering two years of tuition fees and mentoring opportunities for 3rd and 4th-year students at the School of Communication Studies, Wisconsin International University College-Ghana (WIUC-GH).

This is the second consecutive year students from WIUC-GH will benefit from the Scholarship.

FCF is a non-profit organisation based in Canada that provides knowledge and networking opportunities, student scholarships and awards programmes which elevate and empower aspiring professionals and young leaders in communications across the world.

The scholarships are focused on a yearly theme addressing issues in social responsibility, sustainability, climate action and social justice. For 2024, the theme is ‘Communicating the Climate Crisis: Motivating and Measuring Behavioural Change’.

To participate, students are required to create a campaign on the theme using inexpensive resources to inspire action and drive meaningful behavioural change in Ghana. Student entries will go through a judging process and awardees will receive their two-year tuition fee as well as mentoring opportunities with Mahogany Consult.

Millicent Akunor, Communications Manager-Mahogany Consult, highlighted the firm’s commitment to the project by stating: “We are excited to facilitate this scholarship opportunity once again, and look forward to the innovative campaigns students will develop to tackle climate challenges. At Mahogany Consult, we believe in nurturing the next generation of communicators and supporting growth of the communications industry in Ghana, West Africa and beyond”.

“Sustainability is one of the most pressing topics in today’s society,” added Allard W. van Veen, Founder of The PR Trust – the 501(c)(6) non-profit organisation that administers the Future Communicators Foundation. “I firmly believe that PR professionals can play a prominent role in promoting sustainability.

We hope that the scholarship will help develop students’ social conscience and encourage them to make an impact, in terms of promoting a fair and sustainable world,” he said.

Professor Kwame Karikari, a senior faculty member at the School of Communication Studies, WIUC-GH said: “This scholarship not only nurtures the next generation of communicators but also encourages them to contribute meaningfully in the pressing issue of climate change.

Last year’s students presented innovative solutions and we expect this year’s cohort to continue that trend, using communication as a powerful tool for environmental change”.

The deadline for application is 31 October 2024 and winners will be announced on 12 November 2024. Submission information can be found at http://futurecomms.org/.
