In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the country’s hospitality industry, General Manager of Eusbett Hotel, Robert Mensah, has been named the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) Marketing Practitioner of the Year 2023.
His leadership has been lauded for transforming Eusbett Hotel from a modest 16-room facility into a 200-room, 4-star hotel, a testament to his marketing acumen and dedication to excellence in hospitality.
The CIMG in their citation, praised Mr. Mensah for his ability to navigate a highly competitive industry, using strategic marketing tools such as segmentation, targeting, and positioning to enhance customer experience. His work has not only raised the profile of Eusbett Hotel but has also set a new benchmark in the sector, especially amidst economic challenges and growth stagnation.
Under Mr. Mensah’s guidance, Eusbett Hotel became the “first Ghanaian-owned and managed facility to achieve 4-star status. His pioneering efforts in the hospitality industry were further highlighted by his admission into the Hospitality General Managers’ Group, a group traditionally dominated by expatriates.” The CIMG citation further emphasised that Mr. Mensah’s “success is not limited to business growth but extends to his commitment to corporate social responsibility, making a significant impact in the communities Eusbett Hotel serves.”
Mr. Mensah’s achievement was solidified by his proven ability to lead during challenging times, particularly the global COVID-19 pandemic. Eusbett Hotel remained fully operational during the pandemic without staff layoffs, a feat attributed to the solid structures Mr Mensah had implemented, ensuring the hotel’s sustainability and profitability during the crisis.
A proven leader with a stellar track record
With 18 years of experience in strategic and commercial leadership, Robert Mensah, has consistently demonstrated his ability to drive change and deliver exceptional business results. His approach to leadership, characterized by authenticity and adaptability, has enabled him to steer the Eusbett Group into diversification, ensuring the business thrives across multiple industries.
Mr. Mensah’s leadership acumen was tested when the pandemic hit, but his proactive measures ensured Eusbett Hotel became the only up-market hotel in Ghana to operate profitably throughout the crisis.
His numerous accolades speak to his impact within the industry. He was previously named Male Personality of the Year at the 40Under40 Awards in 2019 and Up and Coming Director of the Year by the Institute of Directors. Under his leadership, Eusbett Hotel has won 15 industry awards, solidifying its place as a leader in Ghana’s hospitality sector.
Robert Mensah, holds an MBA in Finance and is affiliated with several professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK and Ghana), the International Association of Hotel General Managers, and the Institute of Hospitality (UK). He also serves on several boards, including the Governing Council of Sunyani Technical University and the Management Board of the Pentecost Convention Centre.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Mensah is a devouted Christian and an Elder at the Pentecost International Worship Centre, Sunyani. His dedication to his faith is evident in his advocacy for Christian values in the marketplace.
