Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, has urged Ghanaians abroad to pool their resources and invest in Ghana’s mining sector to ensure a larger portion of revenue from gold and other resources remains within the country to drive development and growth.

Speaking at a recent fund-raising dinner hosted by the Council of Bono and Ahafo Citizens in America (COBAANA), Dr. Agyemang Badu II highlighted the important role of the Ghanaian diaspora in national development. He advocated for the repeal of laws barring dual citizens from participating in parliamentary affairs, stressing that the expertise and international exposure of Ghanaians abroad could significantly contribute to the legislative process and overall national progress.

The event, aimed at mobilising resources for a dialysis centre in Sunyani, capital of the Bono Region, attracted prominent guests and dignitaries, as well as Ghanaians in the diaspora. Dr. Agyemang Badu II reiterated his commitment to supporting diasporan Ghanaians by offering land for investment opportunities that would foster economic collaboration and growth.

He also highlighted the economic impact of remittances from the diaspora and called for their right to participate in shaping Ghana’s laws and policies.

“Their contributions are enormous,” he said, underscoring the potential for their involvement in governance.

The Dormaahene extended an invitation to Ghanaians, non-Ghanaians and Africans in the diaspora to join him in celebrating his silver jubilee and the Dormaa Kwafie Festival, scheduled for December 2024, with the climax on December 21 at Dormaa Ahenkro.

The event saw significant donations, including US$5million worth of medical equipment and medicines from Dr. George V. Samson, President and CEO of World Medical Relief; US$50,000 from Dr. Nick Danso-Abram, Executive President of Nick Holdings; US$10,000 from Dormaahene and Sumamanhene; and US$5,000 from the Bono Regional House of Chiefs.

Dormaahene was accompanied by Odeneho Dr. Affram Brempong II, Omanhene of Suma Traditional Area, who highlighted the role of traditional leadership in promoting national development and international cooperation.

COBAANA, a non-profit organisation, is dedicated to advancing Ghana’s welfare through initiatives such as donations and the provision of essential equipment. The Dormaahene serves as a life patron of the association.
