Poetry Corner: By This Time Next Year

In the middle of the road

Betwixt the twilight, amid the dusk

The night gave way to a new day

The darkness gave in to a bright new light

The dawn called up the morning dew

In the middle of this road

Sleep was awakened

In the middle of the night

A new day was born for posterity to relish eternity

A new age was grown into maturity

A new way was paved out of uncertainty

In the middle of this day

The sun shone upon a new day

As it was said

If at first you fail to walk through the Isle of fate

Try and trot, try and trek

A journey takes the first step

A journey of a thousand miles

So it was said

If a first attempt makes a failed attempt

Learn to tame your fears, easy and fast

Learn to bear your tears as it lasts

Learn to tear your fears to trickle into droplets

And it was said

Bide your time through the years

Tarry every now and then

Hurry not to run ahead

Worry not about a thing

Wear a thick skin

Next year, something is bound to happen

And it was still said

This year, bide your time

Morning, noon, and evening

Next year, cease the tide of time

When you see it happening

Make hay while the sun keeps shining

Perhaps, as a shocking awakening

To behold what the future is holding in store

Baby don’t you forget

We got to keep a date

If the train arrives long after eight

Be still, and still wait

It will not be late

Don’t you be late!

Arrive to hold what the future has in store

II

It is a one-way road from here

Every turn leads back to you

It leads from me to you
