The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Jeroen Verheul, and his team met with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture at the ministry’s headquarters to discuss strengthening collaboration between the two countries in the agriculture sector.
The Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Paul Siameh, received the delegation on behalf of the Minister, Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
He expressed gratitude to the Netherlands for its significant support to Ghana’s agriculture sector, particularly in improving the country’s cocoa value chain and horticulture sector.
Mr. Siameh highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the Ministry, including irrigation infrastructure development and post-harvest facilities such as warehousing and pack houses.
He emphasised the importance of agriculture to Ghana’s economy and expressed the ministry’s desire to establish a Food and Agriculture Working Group with the Netherlands to foster collaboration, knowledge exchange, and joint initiatives.
The Netherlands government is committed to promoting sustainable initiatives, projects, and sectors in Ghana, including horticulture and cocoa.
The meeting discussed potential areas of collaboration, including strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Netherlands’ Nature and Food Quantity agency.
The partnership aims to facilitate the exchange of technical expertise, best practices, and information related to agriculture and agribusiness, as well as rural development.
The partnership will also focus on promoting innovation and research in the agriculture sector to improve productivity, food security, and environmental sustainability.
The Ambassador emphasised that the Netherlands is committed to facilitating the exchange of technical expertise and establishing partnerships with Dutch businesses to enhance the development and advancement of Ghana’s agriculture sectors.
