Atuabo Gas Plant maintenance works to be completed ahead of time

The Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) has announced that the entire planned maintenance works currently ongoing at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant in the Western Region is likely to be completed ahead of schedule date of August 17, 2024.

“I can say that we’ve done about 60 percent of the maintenance works. We are far ahead of schedule and may finish a day before the completion date of August 17, 2024,” Ernest Owusu-Bempah, Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana Gas, said.



He made this statement during a tour of the processing plant at Atuabo in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region to inspect the progress of maintenance works.

He mentioned that the company is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency.

Richmond Alamu, Asset Integrity and Maintenance Manager of Ghana Gas, added that the company does regular maintenance of all its equipment, and that the ongoing exercise was no different.

He continued that prior to any maintenance work, the company meets all departments and other stakeholders to inform them.

Background

The 17-day shutdown for maintenance of the gas processing plant and the offshore gas export facilities, which spanned from August 1 to 17, 2024, is to ensure safety, enhance efficiency, safeguard the national asset, the cost of operations as well as maintain power generation. The maintenance works, is in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy.

During the shutdown period, lean gas from the Sankofa-OCTP field is available for delivery at the Takoradi Distribution Station (TDS).
