Staff and dependents of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority as well as the wider port community are being called upon to join the GPHA Fitness Club to improve upon their health.

This call was made when the Fitness Club took to the Astroturf in Community 2, Tema near the Mexico School for an outdoor night work out in collaboration with affiliate clubs in Tema and Accra.

The Chief Physical Training Instructor at the GPHA Fitness Club, Warrant Officer Sulemana Mohammed Ayamga, who was speaking exclusively to Eye on Port, said in addition to the opportunity to keep fit three days every week, new club members get to be a part of a vibrant social community of likeminded individuals.

He said the various sessions and routines adopted by the GPHA Fitness Club cannot be found anywhere in Ghana, hence staff of the Authority should jump at this opportunity to keep fit.

“GPHA is not limited to the port, in addition to port operations we also offer fitness. The most important thing in life is physical fitness, if your men are physically healthy, they won’t be unwell. The Authorities have constructed a hall for our workout needs though most of us do not use it. We want them to know that this is what we do at the gym when they see it on TV” he said.

Joining him was Samuel Adjetey, a retired Deputy Security Manager who urged his colleague retirees, and workers at the port to take a cue from this critical lifestyle decision he has made and register at the GPHA Fitness Club.

“Now I am going to tell them to look at me. Even though I am gone and the years are going by, I am fitter than ever before, and we should tell them that it is a good thing and all of us need to watch” he said.

The GPHA Fitness Club holds aerobic sessions at the GPHA Sports Hall near the Junior Staff Clubhouse in Tema Community 2 each Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6pm and Saturday mornings at 6 am.
