Kwaku Origin, the fast-rising Dangme Afrobeat artist, has taken a significant leap in his musical journey with the release of his first studio album, ‘Ajingmlapo’. Launched on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at an exclusive event, the 13-track album has already begun to make waves in the music industry. The event was graced by prominent figures, including Ghanaian music legend Mzbel, who was among the special guests.
“Mzbel’s sounds are evergreen. It’s never fading out and never gets boring. It brings that kind of aura anytime it’s played. That is it. Her sounds are always sweet. I personally love Mzbel,” he said about one of the most iconic figures in the country’s music space.
‘Ajingmlapo’, a Dangme word meaning ‘the first of its kind’, is a fitting title for an album that boldly fuses various musical genres. Kwaku Origin has masterfully blended Hi-Life, Dancehall, Reggae and Hip Hop to create a sound that is both unique and captivating.
This eclectic mix was brought to life by renowned producers such as Brainy Beatz, Forqzy Beatz, ASPINAS, and Karis, whose expertise is evident throughout the album.
The album launch was a night to remember. Mzbel, who attended the event, praised the album’s content and potential, calling it a ‘potential international album.’
She encouraged Kwaku Origin to continue his hard work and promote the album extensively. Her endorsement is a testament to the quality and appeal of ‘Ajingmlapo’.
The event was not just about the album; it was a celebration of music and artistry. Kwaku Origin delivered a powerful performance, showcasing his versatility and stage presence. Mzbel also took to the stage, much to the delight of the attendees. Supporting artists added to the vibrant atmosphere, making the night a true celebration of talent.
He was supported by the Dodowa Forest Talking Drummers.
‘Ajingmlapo’ is more than just an album; it is a statement. It signifies Kwaku Origin’s dedication to his craft and his desire to push the boundaries of Afrobeat music. With this album, Kwaku Origin is poised to elevate his music career to new heights. As the music world takes note of this dynamic artist, fans and critics alike are eagerly anticipating what the future holds for Kwaku Origin.
Privately known as Tetteh Kwaku Nartey Adjoka, Kwaku Origin’s music journey started from the church. It was inside the four walls of the Mozama Disco Christo Church that he started honing the music skills. Then a member of the churh singing band, the future Dangme music artist would rehearse his lines with perfection. Though he had little idea of what singing in the band would mean to his journey, it was at the Ghanata Senior High School that he had an awakening.
And in 2017, after leaving secondary school, he released his first single. He followed up with more singles. Known by his legion of fans as ‘Bo Tue’ or ‘Listen’, about 90 percent of his songs are in Dangme. In an era where most people are struggling to speak in their own native language, Origin says the ability to self-express is an integral part of his own heritage.
“I love to express myself in a language that I’m comfortable with, and my people can understand me. Moreover, I stand to represent my people from the Dangme land.”
Origin’s music reflects his own life struggles. He grew up in a modest environment which taught him to be kind, loving, respectful and content with whatever he was given. It was that modesty that continues to propel him to the journey he is on.
Last year at the ChaleWote Street Art Festival, he shared the same stage with the legendary Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Amandzeba Nat Brew, King of Azonto Gasmilla and other artists.
‘Ajingmlapo’ is set to be a game-changer for Kwaku Origin, positioning him as a formidable force in the Afrobeat scene. With its diverse sounds and compelling tracks, the album is expected to resonate with a broad audience and cement Kwaku Origin’s place in the music industry. The journey has just begun, and the world is ready to embrace the musical genius of Kwaku Origin.
