To inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, Asante Gold has sponsored the first-ever Asante Gold Ogyeahoho Science and Technology Fair in the Western North Region.

The fair aims to ignite a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among Senior High School (SHS) students.

The General Manager of Asante Gold, Stephen Yamoah, speaking at the opening of the fair, emphasised the importance of applying scientific knowledge beyond the confines of the classroom.

“As you explore the exhibits and engage in exciting experiments, I encourage you to think beyond the classroom. Consider how the principles you learn here can be applied to solve real-world challenges,” Yamoah said.

Quoting renowned astronomer Carl Sagan, he added: “Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge”. To this end, he highlighted the vast potential of STEM fields, mentioning healthcare, environmental sustainability, engineering and information technology as areas where students could make a significant impact.

Science and technology, he noted, are at the heart of this progress. “They shape our world, influence our daily lives and drive economic growth. This event is a testament to the remarkable potential within each of you, our students.”

Yamoah opined that the platform is meant to showcase creativity, ingenuity and problem-solving skills. “More importantly, it is an opportunity to inspire and be inspired by the endless possibilities that science and technology offer.”

It is against this backdrop that he said Asante Gold Corporation was proud to sponsor the fair, “reflecting our commitment to the development and empowerment of our community”, he emphasised.

“At Asante Gold Corporation, we firmly believe in the transformative power of education. Our operations at Chirano and Bibiani are more than just mining activities—they represent our dedication to fostering sustainable development and creating opportunities for the youth in our communities.”

“By investing in education, we invest in the future, ensuring that the next generation is equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive innovation and progress,” he added.

“Our mission goes beyond mining, we aim to build stronger communities, foster educational excellence and inspire future leaders. This Science Fair is just one of the many initiatives we support to achieve these goals,” the GM reiterated.

Present at the opening of the Fair was Nana Kwadwo Somiah II, Chief of Sehwi Ntakam and Abakomahene Anhweaso Traditional Area; Western North Regional Director of Ghana Education Service (GES), Seth Boateng; officials and teachers, among others.
